Gold coins are extremely beautiful items and collecting them goes back to when coins were first issued in pre-Roman Europe. However, it was only in the Middle Ages that the hoarding of gold coins became a leisure pursuit amongst the aristocracy and merchants who could afford to save such valuable items for their beauty and historical importance alone.

Coin collecting in general is still a very popular hobby enjoyed by millions of people of all ages. School children all over the world have small collections of overseas coins. Later, that hobby might expand into collecting coins from one’s own country. For example, it is easier and less expensive to collect a cent or penny from every year in the 20th Century in your own country than a foreign country.

This higher level of collecting coins can later become an expensive hobby once one has started working and has more money to spend. One might choose to concentrate on collecting gold coins from a particular period or of a certain denomination. Dollar and sovereign coins are very popular in this regard.

In the USA, gold coins were in circulation from 1838 to 1933. The first design was the Liberty Head Bust but this was changed in 1907 to the Indian Head and Saint Gaudens motifs, which were used until 1933. The difficulties posed by the Great Depression caused gold coins to be recalled to be melted down. This made them scarcer and therefore more valuable.

In the United Kingdom and other areas of Europe, gold was used for coins from before the birth of Christ and many exemplars of these Roman and Celtic gold coins still survive today. Gold is no longer used as currency in Europe either, although in the UK, a gold sovereign is still worth one pound. The motif on the reverse is George and the Dragon, while the reigning monarch’s head is on the obverse

South Africa minted its first gold coin named the Krugerrand in 1967. The Krugerrand has no face value as it was not intended to be used as currency. It is made of one ounce of pure gold and is usually purchased solely for investment purposes. Since then other countries have also minted bullion or investment coins. For instance, Canada made the Gold Maple Leaf in 1979 and Australia made the Nugget in 1981.

In the days of the Gold Standard, countries promised to match the value of their currency with the amount of gold they held in reserve. That meant that if a country issued paper money without buying more gold to support it, the value of the paper currency would fall in relation to foreign currencies.

Different countries came off the Gold Standard at slightly different time, but most of them dropped the standard in or around 1971.

Collecting gold coins is a fine pastime, but it ought not really be seen as an investment, because old gold coins carry a premium to the value of gold inside them. This value is sentiment and that can change rapidly. If you want to collect gold coins all well and good, but if you want to buy gold for an investment, then buy bullion coins or bars.

Bologna is an average sized city in Italy with a population of nearly 370,000. Bologna is situated in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy which is in the north of the country. Its strategic position at the crossroads between the north and south of Italy make it a major stopping place for travellers in Italy and Bologna has one of the biggest and most occupied railway stations in Italy.

Bologna was first settled more than twenty centuries ago which means it has a wealth of historical sights for tourists. Some of the most beautiful sightseeing suggestions for Bologna are explained below.

The National Art Gallery in Bologna is known for the variety of its art collection and its museum has a collection that pertains chiefly to the art from the region of Bologna.

This Gallery keeps the works of prominent Italian artists including Titian, Raphael, Giotto and El Greco among other pieces. The National Art Gallery collects an ticket fee of 4 Euros between 9am and 7pm.

At the center of the old city of Bologna lies the Neptune’s fountain which is a known spot for the tourists who revel in having a cup of coffee too at one of its cafes.

It was built in the middle part of the 16th century. The four cherubs and sirens situated on the four directions of the fountain around the bronze statue of Neptune show the four corners of the earth.

The Bologna Archaeological Museum boasts of a good collection of artefacts unearthed mainly from Bologna and the regions of Emilia-Romagna in Italy. Artefacts that date back to the pre-Roman era known as the Etruscan civilization find place here. This Museum is open to public between 9am and 6.30pm and the entrance costs 4 Euros.

The Basilica of St.Petronio is among the oldest architecture found in Bologna. This Basilica was put up in the 14th century and it is the fifth largest Basilica in the world.

When it was initially being built, it was intended that this basilica in Bologna be much bigger; however, the Pope issued a decree ordering that the size of the building be scaled down so as not to exceed the basilicas in the Vatican.

There are many fascinating things to do in Pisa. If you are taking a vacation to Italy and looking for things to do in Venice click the links.

Many mainstream wedding traditions that are commonly practiced in the modern world grew out of Celtic wedding customs (or, often, the way that religious officials who arrived much later attempted to rein in local beliefs); Celtic weddings always involved a party and feast as part of the celebration, for example, and the term “tying the knot” comes from the literal practice of handfasting, in which the hands of the couple were ceremonially tied together by the officiant to seal either a marriage or engagement. The term “bride” itself is a derivative of “Brigid”, one of many Celtic deities later changed into human saints by the Catholic church in order to lure converts.

Celtic-themed weddings, complete with garments, decor, and particular ceremonial traditions are extremely widely used as they enable couples to hold special weddings that commemorate their union, incorporating imagery, history, and symbolism to which they relate.

Celtic themed weddings complete with decor, dress, and specific ceremonial practices have become popular as they allow couples to hold unique weddings that celebrate their marriage, incorporating images, history, and symbolism with which they identify. The most commonly seen nod to the time and place of this culture is the recent resurgence of Celtic knot work in art and fashion. Celtic knots, though often said to represent specific ideals depending on the shape and style of knot, are in fact simply the art (not language) of the Celts and are thus difficult to codify with definite individual meanings. However, the themes of eternal love and loyalty can generally apply to all of these designs, and some have interpretations more back by research and discovery than others.

By far the most popular way to have a modern Celtic wedding, for those who don’t want to follow the full Celtic wedding theme, is incorporating a bit of this history in ways like choosing and exchanging themed wedding bands; for example, Celtic love knot rings or similar styles. The intricate designs and lovely symbolism of a Celtic knot band can add just the right meaningful detail to your wedding day.

The clothing of the couple and wedding party can also follow or reflect these ideas of cultural history, with touches like using the family’s tartan for couples of Scottish descent, incorporating the wedding spoon tradition for couples of Welsh heritage, and Celtic knot or claddagh embroidery for those with Irish ancestry.

Whether you choose to go all-out with historically accurate clothing, vows, and foods or just add in a few modified versions of these old practices that hold special meaning for you, Celtic motifs can make your wedding ceremony a day to remember for all in attendance.

A gold, platinum, two tone, or tungsten carbide Celtic knot band from Mens Wedding Rings and Bands is an ideal finishing touch to the Celtic theme wedding. Identical or comparable Celtic love knot rings have a rich history & lovely significance..

Hello and welcome. It’s a fact that public speaking has been around for centuries and probably even thousands of years. You may not know that some experts believe that public speaking is a huge reason to the human race development through time and our ability to be social beings.

It is interesting to know that public speaking has almost been handed down to us from our ancestors. In the olden days chiefs and well respected members of the community would pass down information through story telling to the younger generations.

You may find it interesting to know that legend has it that the ancient Egyptians even wrote passages on public speaking, you could call it a manual.

Throughout history, whatever country you were in you would have found evidence of public speaking.

However public speaking as we know it is very different to what it was in the at it’s earliest form. The person that first started public speaking as we know it was a man called Demosthenes who was born around 300 BC. However he also had a speech impediment.

Legend has it that he came up with a way to fix his speech problem by placing pebbles in his mouth when he would speak. He did this for several weeks non stop and apparently he was cured. The thing that strikes me about this was that he was so driven to be a public speaker amongst the community that he wouldn’t let a little thing like a speech impediment hold him back!

Many people have a fear of public speaking. It can be quite daunting but some experts in the field say that the best way to get over your fear is to face it. And that’s possibly the best way when it comes to public speaking. At the end of the day what’s the worst that could happen? If people are taking the time to listen to you then you must have something worthwhile to say.

Probably the two most famous public speakers to come from America are Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln. In fact Martin Luther King could be considered the most famous speaker of all time with his “I have a dream” speech.

Human existance is full of famous public speakers that have recited amazing speeches. Winston Churchill delivered several great speeches in his time.

A great speech has the ability to make a person a legend that will be remembered forever. Public speaking is history in the making and something that I hope shall continue for a long time to come.

The start of the history of window cleaners in the UK came about as a result of the creation of windows and the perfection of the art of glass-making after 2000 BC.

The start of the history of window cleaners in the UK came about as a result of the creation of windows and the perfection of the art of glass-making after 2000 BC.

Initially only rags and water were used and for a long time this remained the case. However, the first specialised tool to be used for window cleaning came about as some realised that a tool used in stables to clean horses could also be put to glass. The horse sweat squeegee therefore became the first tool used specifically for the cleaning of windows.

Throughout the 20th century there was a much more rapid development in window cleaning tools. This came down to many advances in chemicals and different manufacturing processes. In 1936 the single blade squeegee was invented which helped to prevent the problem of streaks and spots on the window after it had been cleaned.

As time has passed, even soap became redundant in window cleaning. When tinted windows were developed it became necessary to develop a detergent that would not damage this glass. The result was ammonia-free window cleaning products that were effective in removing stains yet were not corrosive.

As we stand today, a thin layer of wax is even left as a residue that reflects light giving a beautiful shine to your windows, and also trapping moisture that helps to avoid smears and water spots.

With the growth of these and many other products, the household chore of window cleaning became ever more easy, and with the advances in modern times of much larger windows to let in lots of light, this can only be seen as a good thing.

For those that live in high rise flats or for office buildings, there are professional window cleaning services that can offer a far more extensive clean with all the finest products. Window cleaning has grown into a large industry and for many has become a passion. There are even competitions held all over the world that allow window cleaners to prove their skill and speed in their work.

Are you in need of someone to do window cleaning? We are here to provide of window cleaners in the UK. We have just what you need for any job and budget! Find out what we can do for you!

Chinese culture has a strong linkage with the process of symbolism. Out of the several views of Chinese culture that is involved in utility of symbols, one of the event is the Chinese New Year.

There are many symbols and customs associated with the Chinese New Year, which by the way is not the 1st of January like it is for the rest of the world that adopts the solar calendar.

In many different cultures, animals have continually been a significant part of individuals’ lives.

Domesticated animals bring boundless bliss to people, who often use them to hunt with, to show or for companionship.

A long time ago in Rome, several types of birds and dogs were made into pets. Symbols of these pets have been saved for eternity in the art of the Roman people from that time period. Certain kinds of dogs from that era, like the Greyhound (AKA Italians Greyhounds) are still around today, but were once used as “hot pillows” when the ancient people were suffering from illnesses. Romans consistently named their dogs, but usually didn’t name their cats. Some of the regal titles bestowed upon Roman dogs were: Sila, Juba, Titus and Casca.

Four thousand years ago, the Egyptians were the earliest people to make cats their pets.

Cats quickly became a source of esteem and idolization in ancient Egypt, although they were initially used as rodent chasers. Cats are clearly illustrated as an important part of day-to-day life on some Egyptian tomb scenes. To shield owners from bad luck and evil spirits, statues of cats were also put in front of people’s homes. The feline goddess that protected all cats and children was named Bastet. Ancient Egyptian law reflected the love and admiration the people had for cats; harming a feline warranted a death sentence to the perpetrator. Armies were instructed to go on reconnaissance missions to retrieve smuggled cats from nearby countries; exporting cats out of Egypt was illegal.

Having fish or reptiles as pets was something that occurred years ago, as well. There is evidence that suggests that during the years 220 to 390, people in the Chun dynasty had goldfish as pets. Buddhist monasteries, royal houses, or individuals who had high rankings in society were usually the ones who owned and bred Goldfish. But, during the Ming Dynasty, it was very common to have a goldfish in almost any home, kept in glass bowls or other containers. Having a goldfish as a pet became very popular, and in the 15th century, the “Golden carps” were seen in Europe and Japan. It was said that if you had a goldfish in your house, you would have prosperity and luck. People also loved to watch how they moved, which made them feel more relaxed and at peace.

In all sorts of times and areas, animals have acted as wonderful companions and partners for individuals.

A lot of us cannot currently imagine living if wer’e deprived of a pet. However, it is important to remember that we are accountable for the pets we take in. Careful preparation is required before a pet is obtained and should not be a decision made off the cuff. Our pets count on us to give them a joyful and healthful home. Cats and dogs need attention and love and having them is not to be taken lightly. Like the people of the past, we need to show the same degree of TLC to a pet. In today’s times we are able to get all the best playthings, treats and other bells and whistles for our cats and dogs. So, it is extremely simple and basically inexpensive to spoil our pets. In addition to buying all these things for them, make sure we also show them love and appreciation in return for all they do for us.
