Home Decorating With A Southwestern Theme
Southwestern-themed homes are very popular because they are part history, part fantasy and all comfort. Get the old Wild West into your personal space with the bold colors, period items and Native American designs that are all signatures of this look. One of the key things you have to remember to get this look is to make use of typical ‘cowboy’ items, leather accents and silver items. For more inspiration, just take a look at any cowboy movie to find more key pieces you could add to your home.
Bold colors are usually used in many Southwestern homes which makes that area seem very cozy and warm. If you aren’t to sure of the walls being a deep color try a neutral color with a few throw pillows of the Native American theme to bring that south style into your space. It’s an easy toss if you feel you don’t like the way the room design is headed.
Dark wood, older antique furniture, and distressed look items are a plus in these southern home themes. Since most of the southwestern looks are masculine you want to bring the rough and tough into your home but still make it cozy. Rustic is the key to designing a room around this specific theme. It’s easier than you think just head to some great flea markets or thrift stores for good ideas and decor items.
If you already have wooden flooring in your home it’s a great plus. If you are able to stain this flooring try to go for a darker wood finish. If you aren’t into the staining of the floor try great darker area rugs to place upon them. It will give that darker feel just by placing these upon the existing floor without having to touch them. Just make sure there are a touch of bright colors in the darker rug which you purchase for your flooring needs. It will make the rooms flow with style and warmth.
Native American themed decor will be the best to choose for this type of style. Also brighter colors accented in the area rugs are a great idea. This room shouldn’t look modern after you’re done with it. Don’t be scared to use something which maybe you wouldn’t have before. This is a southern room and you want it to feel as if you just walked into the south.
Before you start adding too many colors into this design, try to choose a few major colors which will be the focal palette color such as silvers, wooden finishes, and reds. Then add a few other punches of colors in with smaller accent pieces. You won’t want the room to be too over done.
No matter which style in the southern design you choose it should always feel inviting and homey. You want this room to be something which screams at people and lets them know you’ve taken quite some time in decorating this room and it shows.
Keep up with current trends in rug decorating and enhance your home with southwestern area rugs.
