Solar Pool Heating – Free Energy from the Sun to Heat Your Pool

Solar swimming pool heaters have one the shortest payback times of any alternative energy investment. in my opinion, anyone who owns a swimming pool should use free energy from the sun to heat their pool.

Since most people closer pools for the winter solar pool heating systems don’t need to be designed to operate in freezing weather. This makes them simpler and less expensive to construct. Depending on where you live, the payback time can be less than a year, meaning that the money you’ll save compared to using gas or electricity to heat your pool will pay for the solar heater within a year.

The basic design of a social pool heater hasn’t changed much from the simple solar hot water systems of the late 19th century.

As all pool owners know, pumps continually circulate the water of the swimming pool through filters and the heater. With a solar swimming pool heating system, a solar heater replaces a gas or electric heater.

Adding a solar heating system to a pool is relatively straightforward. The pumps and filters are already in place so all that needs to be added is the heating panel itself.

Solar swimming pool heaters are relatively inexpensive because the design is so simple. the principle is simply circulating the water from the pool through a long hose exposed to the sun. Commercially made systems usually have a manifold connecting a series of channels to make the heat exchange more effective but the underlying principle is the same.

Before commercially made solar hot water heaters became so readily available a lot of people made their own simple heater by coiling black plastic tubing on plywood that was painted black and positioning it where it was exposed to a lot of sun.

For most of us it’s a lot more convenient to simply by a ready-made solar pool heater and connected to the existing pool water system

Using a solar swimming pool heating system is a win-win situation. you be able to enjoy your pool even more while saving money and helping the environment. You can keep your pool along with a clear conscience.
